PLENVU Bowel cleansing preparation for colonoscopy- morning bookingInformation for patientsFor a successful colonoscopy it is very important that the lining of the bowel is clearly visible so that the risk of lesion being missed is minimized. Poor bowel preparation may result in your colonoscopy being rescheduled or repeated on another day, or that the accuracy of the colonoscopy is reduced. The aim is for your bowel motion to be clear and yellow – no solids, lumps or cloudiness.Preparation instructionsBuy the following from a pharmacy at least two days before your colonoscopy: 1 box of Plenvu- contains 3 sachets.7 days before your colonoscopy Stop taking fish oil or iron tablets and/or any complimentary medicines.5 days before your colonoscopy Stop eating any foods with seeds (including seeds from fruits, multigrain or seeded bread, muesli). Seeds tend to block the function of the colonoscope used to examine your bowel3 days before your colonoscopy Start eating a low residue (low fibre) diet- see page 2 for foods to choose and avoid.Low residue (low fibre) diet Day before colonoscopy: Do not eat any solid food today or any milk products. Drink only approved clear fluids (see list below). Continue drinking Approved Clear Fluids until 6 hours prior to your allocated admission time. You may continue having sips of water only until 3 hours prior to your admission time. Prescribed morning medications can be taken with a sip of water at 6am, unless instructed otherwise by your doctor/anesthetist. Then NIL BY MOUTH (this includes no mints, chewing gum) Do not eat any food until after your procedure.
